The average Social Security pension stands at 1,308.2 euros in March

Social Security has paid 10,313,634 pensions in the March payroll, which amounted to 13,492.5 million euros.
As for the number of pensioners, in March it remained above 9.3 million. Of these, 4.7 million are men and 4.6 million are women.
Average pensions
The average pension of the system reaches 1,308.2 euros per month, 4.5% more than in the same month of the previous year. This figure includes the amount of the different types of pension (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood and in favour of family members). The average retirement pension, which receives more than two thirds of the total number of pensioners (6.4 million people), is 1,502.2 euros per month.
By scheme, the average retirement pension from the General Scheme is EUR 1,662.3 per month, while in the Special Scheme for Self-Employed Persons it is EUR 1,007.1 per month. In Coal Mining, the amount of the average pension is 2,896.5 euros, and 1,660.6 euros in the Regime of the Sea.
On the other hand, the average widow’s pension reaches 933 euros per month.
As for the new retirement increases, the average amount of the system was 1,761.5 euros on average, according to the latest available data (February).
Payroll and pensions by class
The monthly payroll of contributory pensions reached 13,492.5 million euros in March. As usual, almost three-quarters of this figure corresponds to retirement pensions, which represent 73.2% of the total (9,870.4 million euros). A total of Euro2,191.2 million has been allocated to widows ' pensions, while the payroll for permanent disability benefits is Euro1,217.2 million; the payroll for orphans is Euro177.7 million; and the payroll for family benefits is Euro35.9 million.
Delayed retirements grow
In the first two months of the year, 69,616 new retirement pension increases were recorded. Delayed retirements already account for 11.3% of the new hikes, more than double that in 2019 (4.8%). This change reflects the impact of the delay incentives in place since 2022 and the reconfiguration of the early retirement framework.
As a result of this change in trend, the average age of access to retirement is 65 years, compared to 64.4 years in 2019.
As for the resolution times of the files, in February (last data available) it was 21.53 days in the case of the retirement pension and 12.96 days in the case of widows’ pensions.
Supplement for the reduction of the gender gap
In March, 976,975 pensions include the supplement for the reduction of the gender gap, of which 88.7% correspond to women (866,851). The average amount of this supplement is 75.5 euros per month.
Of the total number of supplementary pensions, 25 per cent are pensioners with one child (244,457); 47.1 per cent are beneficiaries with two children (460,384); 18.3 per cent are pensioners with three children (179,139) and 9.5 per cent are pensioners with four children (92,995).
This supplement, in force since February 2021, consists of a fixed amount per child, including the first, and must be applied for at the same time as the pension.
Passive Classes
On the other hand, the monthly payroll of pensions of Passive Classes amounted to 1,667.42 million euros in the month of February (last data available), which means an increase of 95.5 million euros compared to the previous year, 6.07% more.
The number of Passive Class pensions in force was 723,732, which is 14,574 more pensions than in February 2024, with an annual growth of 2.1%.
The State Passive Class System mainly includes military and civilian personnel of the General Administration of the State, the Administration of Justice, the General Courts and other constitutional or State bodies, as well as officials transferred to the autonomous communities.
