Australia is the largest island in the world, as well as the smallest continent. It stretches for about 3,700 kilometers from north to south and 4,000 kilometers from east to west, making it the sixth largest country in the world.
Its oceanic territory covers three oceans and about 12 million square kilometers and has one of the most urbanized and most populated coastal populations in the world, since more than 80% live along 100 kilometers of coastline. It consists of six states and two territories.
