About 200,000 people (197,342 people) with residency authorization for rooting in force are registered as members of Social Security according to the latest report of the Permanent Observatory of Immigration (OPI) on the situation of people with residence authorization for rooting, with data as of September 30, 2025. In this way, the number of people who are working after obtaining the arraigo grows by 21.2% in a year marked by the implementation of the new Regulation on Foreigners. The number of people in discharge grows and the number of people who have obtained administrative regularization through arraigo also grows. The report of the IPO points out that 376,179 people have a residence authorization due to rooting, which represents a growth in absolute terms of 68,621 people in the last year, 22.3% more. Rooting authorizations represent 11% of the total number of people with residence authorization in force under the regime of foreigners.

As we said, according to the data of the Permanent Observatory of Immigration, the number of people aged 16 and over affiliated to the Social Security with a residence authorization for rooting in force has increased by 21.2% in relation to the same date of the previous year, reaching 7,342. This represents 54% of people of working age with this type of residence permit.
Depending on the type of rooting, the social and labour sectors have the highest percentage of affiliation (98%, 88% and 84%, respectively). In family roots, the predominant type of roots, Social Security affiliation reaches 51%.
Migrants with authorization for roots and affiliates come mainly from Colombia (29% of the total, with 56,574), Morocco (14%, which means 26,885 people) and Peru (9%, with 18,058 people).nbsp;
Most of these affiliated people have in force a family roots authorization (64%), followed by those with authorization for social roots (21%) and training (12%). If we look at affiliation within each type of rooting, 98% of people with authorization for socio-labor rooting would be affiliated to Social Security by the end of September 2025.
The type of activity developed by people with authorization of residence by rooting are hospitality (20%), administrative activities (14%), construction (13%) and commerce (12%). This distribution also varies according to the sex of the affiliated persons, so in the construction sector 95% is occupied by men, while in 92% of the activity in households it is carried out by women.
In terms of the provincial distribution, Teruel and Zamora, with 67%, are the provinces with the highest percentage of affiliation of persons aged 16 and over with residence authorization for roots in force. It is followed, in this order, by the Balearic Islands, Huelva, Soria, Guadalajara and Cuenca, with between 66% and 65% of affiliation. In the last year, the number of foreigners with a residence permit for reasons of entry in force has grown by 22.3% to 376.179, which represents a growth in absolute terms of 68.621 people. Thus, family roots are the largest group: 67% (252,250 people) had a residence permit for this reason on September 30, 2025. It is followed by the authorization for rooting for training -type created from the reform of 2022 - with 18% (67,281) and social rooting (13%; 47,332).
It should be noted that, with the last reform, family rooting has changed. Previously it included relatives of people with Spanish nationality and, after the approval of Royal Decree 1155/2024, of 19 November, these people are regulated in a new title. Family roots with the new rule are limited to persons who have certain family ties with persons with the nationality of another Member State of the European Union, of the European Economic Area or of Switzerland.
With regard to the countries of origin, Colombia is the most frequent country of nationality among persons with residence authorization for roots, representing 26% of the total (97,434 persons). Morocco is the second, with 60,096 people, 16% of the total, followed by Peru, with 34,664 people, 9% of the total. Regarding the demographic profile, the distribution between men and women is balanced, with women accounting for 52% of the total. However, women account for 66% when they come from Nicaragua, 65% from Honduras and 65% from Venezuela.
