Payroll and pensions by class
Of the monthly payroll of contributory social security pensions (14,307.7 million euros), three quarters correspond to retirement pensions. Specifically, these pensions account for 73.2% of the payroll, 10,474.4 million euros. A total of 2,280.4 million euros have been allocated to widows’ pensions, while the payroll for permanent disability benefits amounts to 1,329.8 million; that of orphanhood, to 184.7 million euros and that of benefits for family members, to 38.3 million.
Delayed retirements are growing
In the first two months of 2026, 68,497 new retirements were registered, almost 13% were voluntary delayed retirements (12.8%), which means almost two percentage points more than in 2019. In absolute figures, they are around 43,000 high, a figure that contrasts with the barely 14,000 in 2019.
Highlights the number of retirees who have benefited from active retirement, the new improved modality of compatibility between work and pension that came into force in April last year, which already amounts to almost 13,000.
As a result of the voluntary delay of the time of retirement and the lower anticipation, the average age of access to retirement is 65.2 years, when in 2019 it was 64.4. It should be remembered that in 2022 new incentives for late access to retirement came into force and the legal framework for early retirement was reconfigured.
In addition, 62.8% of new retirees acceded with ordinary age (42,992).
The average time of resolution of the files in February (last data available) was 18.84 days in the case of retirement pension. It must be taken into account that the maximum period of resolution in these procedures, according to RD 286/2003 of March 7 and RD 1192/2021, of August 3, is 90 days in the retirement benefit.
